Obituary Sunday~Mr. Henry Hampton Wallace

Mr. H. H. Wallace died at his home near Mt. Croghan Sunday evening, May 21st about nine o'clock. He had been in failing health for some time but his death was unexpected. He was married about sixty years ago to Miss Sarah Ann Ross, sister of Mr. James Ross of Chesterfield, and Mr. Frank Ross of Charlotte. She died several years ago. He leaves seven children, Mrs. J. W. Purvis, of Morven; Mrs. Lonnie Jackson, Henry and William of Mt. Croghan; Jack, of Pageland, and James, of Chesterfield; and fifty-one grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren. He was the father of John Wallace of Peachland, NC, who died Wednesday morning, May 24, only three days between their deaths, and the father of Mrs. Riley F. Smith, who died five years ago. He was a kind father and loved by all who knew him. He will be missed in his home and community. There will be a vacant place in our homes, which never can be filled. He was laid to rest in the Zoar cemetery Tuesday morning at ii o'clock, funeral services conducted by Rev. W.P. Way. (Poem) His Granddaughter.


Mrs. J. W. Purvis named within this obtuary is Henry Hampton’s daughter Nancy Elizabeth Wallace Purvis. She is my Grand Aunt by marriage to John William Purvis, my Grand Uncle.

Henry H. Wallace was born 12 Sept. 1853 and died 21 May 1927. He married Sarah Anne Ross about 1870. To this marriage were born 9 children; six sons and three daughters. Henry and Sarah Anne are buried at Zoar United Methodist Church Cemetery, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
