It’s Family Time~John H. and Sarah Sellers Eddins

It's Family Time
The 1870 census for Cabarrus County, North Carolina shows Sarah Sellers Eddins, age 32, as the spouse of John H. Eddins.

Sarah and John’s first born a daughter named Susan was born in 1861 so John and Sarah were most likely married sometime after the census was taken in 1860. At the time of the census enumeration in July of 1860, John H. Eddins, was a single man in the household of his parents, John Riley Eddins and Mary Sarah Martin.

John enlisted into the Civil War on 22 July 1861 with Company I, North Carolina 7th Infantry Regiment. With the birth of their first child in 1861, John and Sarah were already married when John left home for the War.
John and Sarah Sellers Eddins had 5 children before his untimely death which occurred sometime around July 1872 at the age of 36.

Their children were:
i. Susan E. Eddins was born about 1861 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina.
ii. William Edward Eddins, born 19 Feb 1866, Cabarrus County, North Carolina; married Mary Griggs; died 27 Dec 1941.
iii. Edward Rainey "Dock" Eddins, born 28 Sep 1866, Cabarrus County, North Carolina; married Sarah F. Griggs; married Patsy Short; died 9 Oct 1953, Wadesboro, Anson, North Carolina.
iv.  John F. Eddins was born about Jan 1870 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. He died before 1880.

Civil records related to John H. Eddins and Sarah Sellers are very limited. I have found no records of their death and only Census and Civil war records related to John’s age. He was 36 when he enlisted on 22 July 1861, making his birth year to be 1825. But, in the 1850 census he was listed as age 20. Sarah's age also varied considerably in the census sometimes only aging 5 years in a 10 year period.

Sarah Sellers Eddins is my 2nd Great Grand Aunt.
