Chesterfield County SC Estates~Estate Folder #1233–Jesse Pittman


This is a new series of posting, appearing every Sunday, on selected Estate Folders from the Estate files of Chesterfield County. No known estates exist for the period before the Civil War. They were destroyed with the burning of the Courthouse. There are a few “Equity Records” in the State Archives. County of Chesterfield} Probate Court
Ex parte Nancy J. Davis
In re the estate of Jesse Petition for appoint as
D. Pittman Administrator.
The Petition of Nancy J. Davis shows to the Court:
1. That Jesse D. Pittman died intestate in the County of Chesterfield, State of South Carolina, on the 6th day of May 1907, leaving as his heirs at law and distributees his wife Sarah (Mary) F. Pittman who is insane and confined in the State Hospital for the Insane, and the following children to wit,
Your petitioner Nancy J. Davis, the wife of C. W. Davis, who is of age and resides in the County of Chesterfield , State aforesaid, and Thetis Pittman and Nettie Pittman daughters of Jesse D. Pittman who reside in the County who are 16 and 14 years of age respectively, and John Pittman and Kenneth Pittman and William Pittman his sons who reside in the state of North Carolina.
II. That the said Jesse D. Pittman left a small personal estate, to wit, about two hundred dollars’ worth, and a growing crop which under the law goes as Assets into the hands of the administrator (a one-horse crop), and the estate of the said Jesse D. Pittman has a claim against the S. A. L. Railway for damages for the death of the said Jesse D. Pittman.
Wherefore your petitioner preys that she be appointed as administrator of said estate.
