Chesterfield County SC Estates~Estate Folder #73–William A. Davis, 1888.

 

This is a new series of posting, appearing every Sunday, on selected Estate Folders from the Estate files of Chesterfield County. No known estates exist for the period before the Civil War. They were destroyed with the burning of the Courthouse. There are a few “Equity Records” in the State Archives. Do not overlook this valuable resources if you are looking for ancestors in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.

William Alfred Davis

William Alfred Davis, b. 11 November 1834, a son of Michael Davis and Hulda Rivers. He was a school teacher and farmer and lived in the Zoar Church section of Chesterfield County.

About 1864, William Alfred married Nancy J. Hurst, age 26, daughter of Isaac Hurst and Henrietta Rivers. Over the next 16 to 17 years they would have 10 children; 6 daughters and 4 sons of which two infant daughters and one infant son would not survive. 
Nancy J. Hurst Davis passed away on 8 February 1888 and William Alfred Davis passed away on 29 May 1888. 

Michael Davis, the son of William Alfred was administrator of the estate.

To D. M. Barrentine Probate Judge for Chesterfield County.
The undersigned respectively shows to the Court.
1. That William A. Davis late of Chesterfield county died intestate leaving a personal estate worth about five hundred dollars.
2. That said deceased died on the 29th day of May 1888.
3. That Letters of Administration has never been issued to any one and that in order that said estate may be settled according to Law
Your petitioner prays that letters of Administration may be issue to him. Dec. 3rd. 1888.

ii. Michael M. Davis, born 20 Sep 1867; married Magnolia R. Morris, 1895; died 5 May 1938, Terrell, Kaufman, Texas.
iii. Infant Davis, female, was born in 1868; died on 23 Aug 1868.
iv. Hulda Davis, born 12 Jul 1869; married John Carroll Davis, abt 1888; died 23 Jul 1931, Cheraw, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
v. Isaac Davis, born Oct 1871; married Lillie Ida Teal, abt 1891; died 7 Mar 1954, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
vi. Laura Jane Davis, born 28 Dec 1871; James Samuel Rivers, abt 1890; died 11 Apr 1964, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
vii. Lessie Ida Davis, born 13 Apr 1873; married James Franklin Teal, 1891; died 27 Feb 1940, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
viii. George W. Davis was born on 23 Apr 1874; died on 7 Jan 1875.
ix. James Alfred Davis Sr., born 1 Jan 1876; married (1) Fannie Rivers, 10 Dec 1893; married (2) Martha Ellen McLaurin, 15 Sep 1912; died 19 Jun 1954, Richland County, South Carolina.
x. Infant Davis, she was born on 16 Jun 1878; died 16 Jun 1878.
 
 
William Alfred Davis is my 2nd Great Grand Uncle.
