Treasure Chest Thursday~Sellers-Jackson Marriage

Julius Alexander Sellers, son of Hardy Huntley Sellers and Mary Eliza Sinclair was born 16 April 1855.

On 17 December 1888, at age 37, Julius A. Sellers married Louise Virginia ‘Jennie’ Jackson, age 25. Jennie Jackson was born 22 January 1858, a daughter of Benjamin A. Jackson and Catherine Mary Blakeney. We have a record of their marriage because they chose to be married in Union County, North Carolina rather then in their home county of Chesterfield, South Carolina.

From the Union County North Carolina Marriage Register we have the following entries:

Sellers-Jackson 1888 Marriage

Portion of Marriage Register

Marriage Register

Jackson-Sellers Marriage Entry

The marriage register entry shows that Julius and Jennie were married on 17 Dec. 1888.   The absence of names/signatures on the right panel above seems to suggest that the marriage took place without any family or friends on hand to witnesses the said marriage.

Before his death in October 1917, Julius Alexander Sellers and Louise Virginia Jackson were married 28 years and 10 months and had the following children:

i. Mary Claire Sellers, born 5 Feb 1890, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married Dr. James Ernest Funderburk; died 29 Apr 1934, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina.
ii. Eugenia Sinclair Sellers, born 24 Mar 1891, Chesterfield, Chesterfield, South Carolina; married P. J. Suttlemyre; died 12 May 1960, Hickory, Catawba, North Carolina.
